This is a sound story I created that tells the story of an otherworldly creature who stumbles upon a cassette player. The creature approaches the player with apprehension at first, until it begins to enjoy the strange sound (Patsy Cline’s “Walkin’ After Midnight”) and eventually begins to dance. Finally, in a fit of excitement, the creature mistakenly crushes the cassette player, destroying it forever.

I had so much fun creating this story! The entire piece was created in Pro Tools with pre-recorded sound effects from a sound library. My biggest goal was to create a lush background that kept the alien-like creature noises rooted in something familiar to an audience. The most challenging aspect was creating footsteps and movements that emulated how the creature was feeling, especially when only dealing with library effects and no foley. (This was also a great opportunity to work with my favorite Patsy Cline song!)
