"Broadway Boogie-Woogie"

This soundscape is an audio representation of Piet Mondrian’s 1941-1942 painting, “Broadway Boogie-Woogie“. In the 1940s, Mondrian was inspired by the New York City Boogie-Woogie scene and the layout of the city itself. He wanted to pay homage to the city map in his work, where he used only primary colors and vertical and horizontal planes.

In my soundscape, I wanted to honor Mondrian’s respect for simplicity by using almost entirely pure sine waves. I also incorporated synthesized versions of what you may hear on the streets of NYC, i.e., sirens and car horns.

This entire piece was made in Ableton Live using the “Analog” Oscillator, LFOs, and some additional audio effects.
